New Video for the song “Bounce”

13Feb

bounce

Last year, while on tour in Europe, a friend of ours invited us to a farm in Tuscany. We had a few days off, so we decided to take him up on the offer. We drove rolling and winding country roads to the middle of nowhere, a magnificent nowhere, mind you, and for the next two days, we played music in old, crumbling castles, had some proper sleeps and swam in the pool. And, our other friends Jeff and Clemens brought along some video cameras so we wouldn’t forget we were there.

Watch it on our Music Videos page.

Performing at “Bring Your Boomers” event on December 11, 2012 @The Rio, Vancouver, BC

01Dec

If you’re in the Vancouver area on December 11th, come on down to the RIO Theatre for Bring Your Boomers.

As part of Gen Why Media’s ongoing inter-generational dialogue series, Bring Your Boomers combines intelligent conversation with music, film, visual art, storytelling and dance to provide a culturally-driven entry point to discuss social transformation.

In collaboration with the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives and Leadnow.ca, ‘Power and Energy: Connecting the Dots’ explores BC’s emerging carbon corridor and the provincial policies needed to change course towards a green economy, just society and a healthy new era.

OPENING PERFORMANCE: Luciterra Fusion Belly Dance quartet

STORYTELLING: CCPA’s senior economist, Marc Lee, tells the utopian story of BC’s energy policy 50 years in the future, alongside visuals created by Ben Z Cooper and Vincent van Haaff.

DIALOGUE: On-stage “living room conversations” with participants from different generations, reflecting on BC’s industrial web of fracking, pipelines, LNG plants, tankers, mines, dams and the Tar Sands. Speakers include: Damien Gillis (Y’er), Ben Parfitt (X’er) and Karen Cooling (boomer). Moderated by ten-year-old performer, Ta’Kaiya Blaney.

CLOSING PERFORMANCE: Brasstronaut

7pm (doors at 6:30)

Nice Reviews from the Grid & Lithium Mag

The reviews are coming in slowly, but surely. These two are particularly thoughtful:

Lithium Magazine: http://tiny.cc/akl1ew

Btw, we had to disable the comments area as we were getting spammed – like 200 emails a day – with promises of a better body & free ipads. IndieGoGo & Mean Sun – a request for donations & an explanation

03Apr

It is no secret that we have recently started an Indiegogo account to raise donations to support the release of our new record, Mean Sun. We are in a position where we want to present our new album to the world in the best possible way, and this means spending money on things like proper publicity, pressing (vinyl & cd production), and recording costs. Over the past four years Brasstronaut has been fortunate enough to get some very helpful grants from Canada in the past for travels to festivals such as Iceland Airwaves, Reeperbahn, and The Great Escape. However, we did not receive critical funding this round to cover our recording for the Mean Sun and associated promotion costs, which was disappointing, but not discouraging. The truth of the matter is that arts funding has become increasingly cut back in our country, and cannot be depended on for sustaining the development of a totally independent band like our own. We are six people, well, actually, grown men (sortof) who have dedicated our lives to making music, and thus far have received an enormous amount of encouragement from you, our fans, to keep progressing in our work. We love what we do, but we also want to run a sustainable business. If anything can be depended on, it is truly your continued support and by setting up this indiegogo account, we have created the most direct way for you to help fund the release of our new record. Thanks in advance for any contributions you might make to the project.

welcome to the future

02Apr

It’s been a long time coming, but we have to thank our good friend Kevin Haag in Kamloops, BC for setting us up with a new website. We’ll be using this blog to announce tours and give you updated information about our forthcoming record “Mean Sun”.
